FAQ & Answers
Advanced PC users may be able to update Emachines drivers manually by searching for the correct version at the Emachines Driver Support ensuring that it matches the device type and exact model, downloading and installing it. However, this process takes time and carries the risk of getting an incorrect driver version or downloading an unofficial driver, which may be bundled with spyware or viruses. - Little bit of an update for future reference. I bought an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 SLB5W and everything booted fine after I cleared the CMOS. The system actually behaves like a modern computer and I can multitask on it. Temps are stable under 60c with a new CPU cooler.
Next up on the upgrade list is RAM. Does the motherboard support dual channel memory and what is the highest amount of RAM I can stick in it? Getting conflicting information at either 4GB or 8GB. - Just wanted to post an update here for future upgraders. The system is locked at 4GB total. Dual channel is a must. Once I put two matching 2gb sticks in there, any sluggishness vanished. What also holds the system back is the integrated graphics. A graphics card is needed for this system. I went with the Dell OEM Radeon HD7570. It's an old card from 2012, but it has GDDR5 memory and it was $20 when I bought it. They are also ALL OVER ebay. So unlike some better performing cards, you can easily find these for a decent price. Now the last upgrade I need is a solid state drive. The motherboard only has SATA 2 ports, so you won't get the FULL potential out of an SSD with this, but it's still better than the mechanical hard drive the system came with.
- Hello there.im hoping you can point in a few directions ive yet to find.ive an old emachines el1832.im trying to establish what motherboard and version i have.any software links? and the bios is PO1-A2.its working fine.so do i need an update ( PO1-A3?).and any other helpful links you might suggest. Nice one on the grafx card update.just what i needed, there. Simon.
- Hello ScholesyBoy. Acer has actually kindly left the eMachines website up and running, along with downloads to the various drivers and support software for eMachines devices. You can find it here: http://www.emachines.com/ec/en/US/content/drivers.html. Your EL1832 will be under Desktop>EL Series>EL1832. Under that you can click the Bios tab and download a program that will update your bios to P01-A3, along with any other stock drivers you might be missing.
Though you might want to stop and consider if you need to update the bios. If you are having no issues with your machine being compatible with new bits of hardware you install into it or operating systems you install, then I would hold off on the update. With Bios updates, typically the attitude to have is 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' - As far as I know - I have an EL1850 from eMachines with the same board - there are no newer BIOSes since that P01-B03 (A03 is for Linux, B03 for windows) from 2012 (was the latest release). There was another similar board from ECS (G41T-ME but that is different in some details) For myself I have a done modified Bios which works for putting S771 xeons onto it after modification of the socket (pin-swap sticker required as well). But only microcodes for xeons patched into it, no other changes applied.
The board is out of support finally since years. But Windows 10 x64 works (currently Build 1809, 4GB RAM, SSD). And these boards (having an Intel N10/ICH7 Series Chipset) is surely facing platform support cancellation in the future of Windows 10 in one of the coming Builds.
